Today I’d like to tell you about a nice inn I found, quite by accident.  It has charm and a “european flair“.  Plus it has decent hotel amenities – specifically, there’s a fitness center, an indoor pool, and a kitchenette in every room.  Also it’s convenient to have the laundry on EACH and every floor!

Minot ND Hotels: Additional Amenities to Consider

Are You a Techie?  Well, you’ll be pleased to know that every room includes wi-fi. Plus there’s a 32 inch flat screen tv.  And if you like the feel of memory foam, you’ll be jazzed to know you can request a memory foam topper!

The bed is a pillow-top bed – all the rooms are new, and are quite sound-proof. This is a quiet inn and is close to the airport. It features a large walk-in closet.  And if you need something (extra pillow, information) just ask; the Noble Inn has courteous staff who want to HELP you out.

Simply call (701) 837-1500. The professional staff will be glad to assist you.

The rooms are non-smoking, but there’s a designated area for smokers.

Many online reviews confirm this – as you can see 😎 .

Minot Activities and Events

The North Dakota State fairgrounds are 2 miles away, and host many events.  The North Dakota State Fair is in July – yet there are year-round programs, and you have only to LOOK up the calendar.

The Taube Museum of Art is nearby, as is the Old Soo Depot Transportation museum.  For dining, there’s a variety.  I’ll list some fine dining establishments:

If you prefer oriental – thai food for example – there’s the Baan Rao restaurant on  40th st. (it’s at 401 40th Street SE, Minot ND)

Final Notes

Some people like to know if a place has any newspapers. This one does. Also, there are banquet facilities on site.  And if you happen to have a lot of luggage, well, you’ll be relieved to know that this inn does have an elevator.

For summertime, there’s an outdoor barbecue to be enjoyed.

It is a new hotel, arriving during the boom time in North Dakota (oil boom) – with plush features (granite countertops, nice silverware & a kitchen), a bar, and full “hot” breakfast.. what’s not to like?

Additional Services at The Inn

Services

Vending Machine (snacks), Vending Machine (drinks), Meeting/Banquet Facilities, Laundry, Fax/Photocopying, Business Center, ATM Machine on site, Newspaper

If this doesn’t strike you as a charming place to stay, well, you drive a hard bargain. You may want to check other Minot hotels such as Four Points by Sheraton Minot.

Devils Lake ND Motels: Customer Reviews for Motels

Devils Lake ND Motels:  My Preference

By Jan Ashby

Super 8 Devils Lake
1001 Highway 2 East
Devils Lake ND 58301

(701) 662-8656

The Super 8 motel in Devils Lake has a friendly staff.  To give my opinion, they’re laid back and cooperative.

Why do I say this?  Well, it’s the way they responded – in a friendly manner – when I asked if I could try out a whole bunch of rooms, to see which bed would have the proper firmness.

You know how it is when you’ve got a bad back – you end up saying “ouch” in a hurry, if you’re not careful about your selection (bed selection).  Some people can sleep anywhere – not me!

Devils Lake Motels ND: Quiet and Friendly

So I am sharing my post today so you can gain some knowledge about the staff at North Dakota motels and hotels.  When you’re in North Dakota, you sort of have to be “laid back” and not expect the kind of upgrades & offerings you get in other places (think hotel concierge or mini-bar).

This is true of Devils Lake Super 8 motel.  However, if you’re in the mood for just plain folks and wearing your blue jeans to supper, then you’re in for a treat.  The lake is really pretty in the summer and Fall, and you can find LOTS of solitude here.

Customer Reviews for Motels:  I Compared The Super 8 to Another ND Motel

Before registering at this particular motel, I went across the street – well, the staff was more professional yet not really freindly.  Also, I noticed there was no free breakfast with this other motel.  That did not sit well with me. I like to roam the halls in the morning, get a piece of fruit and some cereal & milk & then make my way back to my room.

I am not a morning person, so I look for this feature.  And all the Super 8 Motels I’ve stayed at in North Dakota (in Williston and Grand Forks) have the free gratis breakfast!

So this I like. It wasn’t fun to have to carry my luggage up a set of stairs – but it was only 1 short flight of steps, so not “too bad”.  I like that the Super 8 in Devils Lake has the outside doors locked. *You have to use a card key to get access to the hallway.

Okay, now on to the room – standard size with a very clean bathroom.  The mini-soaps are the usual size, albeit a little thicker than the dinky soaps you sometimes see.

The towels were in fact pretty good – not “super plush” or anything, but not real thin either. And it was nice the staff gave me extra washcloths when I asked for them.

TV Set:  How Did it Fare – Was the Picture Good?

    ND Motels Televisions

By now, you must have gathered that I like Devils Lake.  Yet how was the room?  Was it quiet enough for me?  In a word “yes”.  Of course, I spent that extra time at the beginning scouting out the different rooms & choices.  You can do that too.

Of course, if you arrive close to 7 to 8pm at night that helps, as most folks have already settled in for the evening.  As far as media goes, the tv was modern & it did have a crisp, clear picture.

No clock radio though – so if you’re one that likes to wake up via music, you may be out of luck (unless you bring your own). Still, you can always ask the cheerful staff for a wake-up call.

Lunch and Dinner:  I Recommend the Casino

Nice Restaurant in Devils Lake ND

You reach the Spirit Lake (little island) casino and enter the Spirit Lodge – it was updated in Dec 2013, and looks much better. I felt it could use a few more windows, to take better advantage of the lovely VIEW – and with the new renovation, it’ll now have that.

The buffet is called Dacotah Buffet, and is pretty good.  I love the salad myself. To see the menu, simply click HERE .  It should be noted that the casino also has a Snack bar (Open 24 hours a day, 7 da. a week) – it’s mainly sandwiches, pizza and appetizers.

Also featured is whiz-bang entertainment – if you’d like to read more about music/Entertainment pkg visit this page .

I do want to tell you that it’s a beautiful, leisurely drive round Spirit Lake – I enjoyed it an awfully lot !  I actually ventured right down by the lake – and there was a bit of a dropoff !  Be careful if you stray from the main path with your car.

Super 8 Motels: My Stay in Williston ND

ND Motels: Super 8 Motel Review

 By Jan Ashby

Hey y’all.  You may be wondering, what the heck can Jan Jan Ashby Reporter (that’s me) divulge about a motel in Williston, ND?  Well, I am going to give you the basics – the level of cleanliness, the motel staff’s friendliness (or lack thereof), and location in respect to restaurants, gas stations, & retail stores.

Speaking of stores, there is a Walmart within a mile – so that should help, in case you forgot to pack yourself a toothbrush!  As to restaurants, there are a TON nearby (I am not exaggerating).  There’s a Subway, a Pizza Hut, a McDonalds, and even a nice “sit-down” restaurant that has recently undergone a major renovation; it’s the restaurant inside El Rancho Hotel … and it now boasts a nice plush interior with a lounge and a new bull-riding machine.

Notes on Cleanliness and the Bathroom at Super 8

ND Motels - Features

Regarding the room I stayed in – the motel’s bathroom had a new countertop and was in very good condition. The number of clean towels and washcloths astounded me (especially for just 1 person – me) – yet I would have liked a bigger piece of SOAP – geez, the soap is so tiny you can barely SEE it !  My advice – bring your own bar of soap, or purchase one at Walmart

The tub is a pretty good sizeand I liked the severity of spray that came out of the shower head. It felt nice on my neck – sort of like a massage. The tub was very clean, btw.
ND Motels and Hotels

Since I stayed in a Super 8 suite/motel room, I can comment on extra amenities.  First of all, there is a sink and mini-frig – and LOTS of counter space!  If you are one who likes to spread out a bit, then you may appreciate this.  There are a number of cupboards – about 6 or 7, to put your “stuff” away.

ND Motels and Amenities

MODERN MICROWAVE OVEN

There is a modern microwavenot some old, outdated model.  Noticed it did a good job on popcorn, and for heating my coffee up .  Overall, the kitchenette area gets an “A” for cleanliness and functionality.  The coffee that is provided (if you stay in a suite) is better than the stuff a Motel 6 would feature (a grade up from that) – but not as premium as say, Starbucks, Dunkin’ Donuts, or Green Mtn.

The television was a nice size, as well,  The picture was crisp and clear (and since my middle-age eyes grow weary from typing on the computer), I definitely can appreciate a non-fuzzy picture.

The entire kitchenette area consists of a lounging area with sofa, the kitchen itself, a small “dining” table, cabinets, microwave, frig & coffee pot.  Carpet was decent (new) and clean. *Note that a small breakfast is provided (with fruit, cereal, fruit juices, muffin/donut/toast).

It normally begins by 6:30 a.m. and completes by 10 a.m.

I think because this motel is in western ND, which is in the midst of an oil boom, care has been taken to make sure it is “up-to-date”.

Final Remarks

The floor in the bathroom was cold – and I didn’t notice a wall heater – so you should pack a small portable heater if you like it cozy.

The pillows are also nothing special (they’re ok, yet not as plump as I like mine to be) – so you may wish to bring your own from home.

There are always ways you can make a hotel/motel room feel more luxurious.  You can make use of “aromatherapy” and bring your oil and diffuser along.  This isn’t a bad idea – particularly in North Dakota in the wintertime.

A little patchouli oil, lemon, or eucalyptus  Eucalyptus oildid ya know that you can nab these at the local Walmart?  Yep, I’ve been in the department that sells diffusers, & have seen a variety of oils!

So if you’re feeling bluesy when you head out the door for travel, why not bring some patchouli oil – it helps combat depression and anxiety.  Lemon is also calming, and has a bunch of benefits such as helping with insomnia.

P.S.  I said I’d tell you about staff – they left me alone when I put sign on the door, & were useful when I needed an extra towel or pillow – actually one of the employees even assisted me in jump-starting my car – now that’s pretty good service.

Hope you found my review useful – and if you really want a quiet, luxurious place to stay in Williston – I would suggest the Candlewood Suites or the Marquis Plaza & Suites.   If you need to be picked up from the airport, then go with Grand Williston Hotel.

For a bit more comfort, stay at Hampton Inn – it’s rated #2 of all accommodations in Williston – read reviews HERE.  People say the rooms are spotless, the beds comfy, and the staff friendly – one individual said they allowed her a “late check-out”.
